Dear Friend,
It is time to think! How many more years? Will 2011 be the last, if not for the planet, then for you and me? What will happen during 2011? What does 2011 hold for you and me? And is there some plan for the other seven billion lonely souls who are riding Planet Earth on its wild journey through space?
Dear Friend,
It is time to think! How many more years? Will 2011 be the last, if not for the planet, then for you and me? What will happen during 2011? What does 2011 hold for you and me? And is there some plan for the other seven billion lonely souls who are riding Planet Earth on its wild journey through space?
Back in the nineteenth century, wise men told us that things would gradually improve until Paradise spread from pole to pole and from sea to shining sea. All men would be converted, and the nations would “beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.” Alas, it has not turned out that way. The Twentieth Century gave us the two greatest wars in history, and the birth of the bomb ushered in the age of MAD (mutually assured destruction). Today, the nations are angry, and a sense of impending doom fills the hearts of wondering multitudes.
Back in 1844 a group of young Americans who studied their Bibles thought differently to the accepted wisdom of their day. No, they declared, it will not get better. It will get worse, much worse, and then Jesus will come. They were called Adventists because they believed in the Advent, the coming of the Lord. They taught the disintegration of society, the rise of Spiritism, the rebirth of Apostate Christianity, and most importantly, the Gospel to all the World. They were right, and the wise men were wrong.
I am an Adventist because I believe the signs show that the coming of Christ is near, even at the door. I am not surprised by the collapse of morality, or the senseless greed that drives people to do insane acts, and the actions of lunatics who rule nations. These things confirm my faith. I believe that Christ is coming and with the ear of faith I can hear His chariot wheels “a rumbling and a coming.”
What about 2011? In spite of an optimistic eddy or two against the current, the river of this world will gather momentum as it roars on its way down to the sea of perdition. There is no holding it back. The best thing we can do is stand on the shore and throw lifelines to those who will accept them. Dear friend, the world cannot, will not, be saved. As we wait for the return of the King, we would be unfaithful servants were we to stand idly by. We have work to do, you and I. That work is to take the Gospel to a perishing world and to throw out the lifeline. The mesmerized masses will spurn the offer of mercy, but many will gladly accept it.
I have just returned from South Africa with a conviction that multitudes will accept the Gospel if we shake off our lethargy, and get about our Master’s business. Church leaders over there were amazed at the great crowds that came to the meetings. They were amazed at the quality of the people and how wonderfully attentive they were. They had never seen anything like it before. Please listen to me: multitudes will grasp the lifeline if we the Church get serious about evangelism. I know what I am talking about! I have seen the Spirit of God at work on millions of human hearts. How we need to receive the Holy Spirit and throw out the lifeline!
During 2011, I am inviting you to be my partner in saving souls. Let us together throw out the lifeline to perishing souls in India, Russia, China, and wherever God opens a door. And let’s not forget America and Australia! You and I have work to do.
Please write to me and give what you can for the rescuing of souls from the river of death. The best thing we can do is invest in Heaven and lay up treasures in Heaven. Please write to me today and let us together throw out the lifeline.
May 2011 be a year during which you will be drawn closer to the heart of God. May you be blessed in every way as you wait for the Advent of our Lord that will be glory, for you and for me, forever.
Yours in the Blessed Hope,
John Carter
