1. The World has a Terminal Illness
The Gulf disaster demonstrates how clever man is destroying Planet Earth. What will we do next? Will North Korea and Iran, with a little help from Israel’s 250 nuclear warheads, wipe out vast areas of the earth’s surface? Global warming (it does seem to be happening) tells us that the patient is very sick and running a high fever. The Bible says, “They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.” Hebrews 1: 11,12 (N.I.V.)
So dear friend, let’s not get too comfortable here. Everything we see, and touch, is soon to pass away. Let’s get ready for “a new heaven and a new earth.”
2. Politics, Science, Religion (Man-Made) and Philosophy Have Failed
It never fails to amaze me that we get so excited over politics. Leaders seem strangely impotent to do anything effective. Maybe God is sending us a signal: “IT’S TIME TO TRUST ME!” Scientists who laugh at believers who see intelligent design in nature are the ones helping to wipe out the planet! Then there are the sex scandals out of the Roman Catholic church with thousands of church officials guilty of pedophilia and every other sexual perversion. It’s time, dear friend, to look to Christ, and Christ alone for salvation. He alone, is the way, the truth, and the life.
3. Only Two Things Have Lasting Significance
I’m not talking about my house and my car. I’m talking about our salvation and the salvation of others. We need to come to Christ as penitent sinners and accept His free gift of forgiveness and everlasting life. Last Sabbath I preached on, “I BELIEVE IN THE GOSPEL,” and a CD of this message is yours free, for the asking. Nothing is as important as being right with God right NOW.
We who are saved by His grace have a responsibility to get others saved by grace. There’s a word for it and I sometimes hesitate to use it because it’s been so abused. The word is evangelism, which comes from a Greek word that translates, “PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL OR GOOD NEWS.” It’s really a very good word.
That’s what the Church ought to be doing, not playing church or politics or getting involved in commercial enterprises. Christians are called and commanded to take Jesus to people, because there is no salvation apart from Him. That’s a fact.
I am inviting you, dear supporter, during these days of crisis, to join me in taking Christ to the temporary inhabitants of this temporary planet. You may help in the following ways:
- By joining us as we go to Johannesburg, South Africa, for a citywide campaign for Christ. These meetings will be telecast across South Africa. I need to raise $500,000.00 and I need your help now. Please write to me.
- By supporting our television outreach in India. We have decided to stay when most others have pulled out. We desperately need to raise $500,000.00 for Indian evangelism.
- By supporting a great DVD outreach on the streets of China’s cities. The need there is almost overwhelming. Please help me raise a million dollars for China evangelism.
So there it is, dear loyal friend. I have a feeling that you will agree with my “three ideas.” Now, by the grace of God, let’s do all we can, whenever we can, for whomever we can, while we can, to proclaim Christ.
“Give us a watchword for the hour, A thrilling word, a word of power, A battle-cry, a flaming breath, That calls to conquest or to death; A word to rouse the church from rest, To heed her Master’s high behest, The call is given; ye hosts arise, Our watchword is Evangelize!”**
Please, please don’t put it off. Don’t delay another instant. Please write to me today and enclose your gift for souls. Thank you a thousand times. May God bless you with more blessings than you can fit in your house.
P.S. When you send your love offering, please request my CD, “I Believe in the Gospel” (Please quote this number when requesting your CD: CD1014*). Please write today. *All gifts to this ministry are tax-deductible as defined by U.S. Treasury regulations. The fair market value of my CD is $5.00 and all tax-deductible receipts will be in accordance with U.S. Treasury regulations. The DVD is a gift to you, but according to the tax-laws of the IRS is not tax-deductible. The market value is $5.00 and your receipt will reflect the tax requirements of the IRS. ** First paragraph from “Evangelize” poem by Henry Crocker
