Dear John Carter, greetings from Russia!
 
Yesterday Lydia and I returned from Nizhny Novgorod, where the 30th anniversary services were held on June 4 in the Lower and Upper Churches of Nizhny Novgorod.
 
We were invited and had the privilege to participate in these solemn meetings, and praised God for being participants in the foundation of these new congregations.
 
We met with the brothers and sisters dear to our hearts, pastors, as well as representatives of the city authorities and other faiths. It’s a pity that you couldn’t be with us. It was nice to hear and see your greeting.
 
Your merit is very great in the fact that there are new churches, houses of prayer in Nizhny Novgorod, and the TV company “Three Angels,” which is successfully managed by Yulia Efimovna Utkina. If it weren’t for you, your lovely wife Beverley, and your son David, there would be no such reason for celebration and gratitude to our Lord.
 
The Church of Nizhny Novgorod is developing and growing. Pastors Vitaly Kisser, Dmitry Bulatov, and the conference leaders, Alexander Sinitsin and Sergey Titovsky, as well as the Three Angels TV company, most of whom were baptized during your campaigns, are doing everything possible and impossible to preserve and multiply the Church of Christ.
 
How I want to see you again! I want you to know that cooperation with you at the programs in Nizhny Novgorod brought me more joy and blessings than the meetings with the President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev and three presidents of Russia.
 
I keep in my heart the best moments of personal communication with you both in Nizhny Novgorod and in Moscow. It was a great honor for us to receive you, as a most outstanding and great Christian preacher of the Adventist Church, at our home.

Subject: LETTER FROM JOHN CARTER TO VASILY IN RUSSIA
 
Dearly beloved Pastor Vasily and Sister Lydia,
 
We rejoiced when we received your message. The days of 1992 in Nizhny Novgorod will never be forgotten. The power of the Holy Spirit at the meetings was truly extraordinary. We saw displayed the mighty hand of God to save and deliver. I am convinced we saw Pentecost, not a foretaste of Pentecost, but the Latter Rain in all its glorious power and sufficiency.
 
The Volga River was the scene of the baptism as thousands proclaimed their faith in the Savior. All glory shall ever be given to God who revealed Himself to us. The scene of the Russian military helicopter hovering over the baptism will never be erased from my memory.  
 
It was also amazing that the Russian military was present at the baptism to provide tents and a massive truck 
that served as our platform for the proclamation of the Word. Those who saw those events will never forget how God came to the salvation of His people. Thank you for your remarkable leadership during those days of grace 
and glory.
 
Danny Shelton joined us at the time of the great baptism and in his heart was planted the seed that grew into the Christian Cultural Center, home to 3ABN Russia. Our beloved Dr. Julia Outkina was baptized during that historic series of meetings and has been director of that important evangelism powerhouse for many years. How we long for and miss all our beloved friends in that part of the world! 
 
We send you our greetings and love. We will never forget you. You will always remain in our hearts. May the bright flame of Truth continue to shine forth across Nizhny Novgorod and beyond. Our prayer is, EVEN SO COME LORD JESUS. AMEN.
