THE DEATH OF EVANGELISM AND THE COLLAPSE OF AMERICA
Is this title an exaggeration? I don’t think so. It is a fact that the demise of public evangelism has led to a demoralization of society. When Billy Graham was running great evangelistic campaigns that were broadcast from coast to coast, America was a better place. The public proclamation of the Gospel had an elevating influence on society.
But church leaders had had enough, they were anxious to torpedo anything that diminished their stature and lessened their political power. They had always opposed public evangelism, but had done so secretly. Now they are more forthright. They have successfully driven the evangelists out of the land. Judgment day is coming.
PAUL MICKELSON TELLS
JOHN CARTER THE INSIDE STORY
Who was Paul Mickelson? One of America’s great musicians and Billy Graham’s organist. He joined The Carter Report team after I baptized him in 1995 in Pasadena, California. He told me about the opposition, the battles fought, and the victories won. He described to me the New York and London crusades, the initial small crowds, the movement of the Spirit, the great crowds that finally thronged the meetings, the spiritual ripple effect across America and Britain.
He also described how the song, “How Great Thou Art,” had been introduced to America at the Billy Graham meetings. Paul later accompanied The Carter Report team to Russia and Ukraine.
