Dear fellow Pilgrim,
When you are feeling down, remember it’s not the outlook but the uplook. Never forget, there is more good than evil in the world. When evil seems to be winning, remember that Christ is still King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Jesus is victorious and we will triumph with Him. Even if I die from Covid-19 or cancer, the worst the Devil can do is to give me a little sleep. I have God’s promises that assure me I will live in a place of joy and perfect contentment for a zillion years, without a shadow to cause me to stumble, without an ache to cause me pain, without emptiness to fill me with uncertainty, without loneliness to bring me sorrow. And the first zillion years will be just the start. No, this is not pie in the sky in the sweet bye and bye. It’s real, it’s true, it’s certain, it’s the promise of the Savior who said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” When politics get you down, it’s time to let God lift you up. When the White House depresses you, it’s time to let God’s House fill you with joy, unspeakable and full of Glory.
When the nightly TV news is bad news, it’s time to listen to God’s Great Good News. Here it is in a theological nutshell: God the great Creator loves you, thinks about you, cares for you so much that He came to live with you. While here, He healed the sick, comforted the hurting, and preached Good News to the poor. He taught that no one was unimportant, and no one was forgotten. He lifted heavy burdens as He forgave sins. He painted a picture of a beautiful new world where only goodness lives. Finally He died for our sins to open the door to Heaven and let us in. He walked out of His tomb the Sunday after Black Friday and told us His victory was ours.
When the nightly news shouts bad news about Covid-19, the Delta strain, overcrowded hospitals, respirators, wars, fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, scandals, shootings, riots, and burning buildings, tell the Devil you’ve heard enough.
